Instagram Hits 300 Million Members
Instagram has hit a milestone, as the image-based social network announced that there are now more than 300 million “Instagrammers” on its platform.
“Over the past four years, what began as two friends with a dream has grown into a global community that shares more than 70 million photos and videos each day,” the social network’s blog post states. “Instagram is home to creativity in all of its forms, a place where you can find everything from images of the Nile River to the newest look from Herschel Supply or a peek inside the mind of Taylor Swift.”
In addition to its milestone, Instagram also (finally) unveiled verified badges for celebrities, athletes and brands. This feature, which is already available on social networks like Twitter and Facebook, makes it easier for users to connect with authentic accounts. According to Instagram, these badges will start rolling out over the coming days.
It is also important to note that Instagram says it is continuing its efforts to rid its platform of fake and spammy accounts. Because of this, users may see a change in their follower count. Those who do see a correction, however, will receive a notification directing them to additional information.
