Instagram's Ad Carousel Format in Focus

As brands look for new and improved ways to communicate with their consumers on social media, networks are constantly releasing new features and programs to help them in their never-ending quest.

Instagram has announced changes to its advertising program which allows brands to advertise their products in a new format called carousel ads.

According to Instagram, carousel ads endow brands with more flexibility when telling their stories by allowing users who view their ads to see additional pictures as well as a link to a website of the brands choice by swiping left on ads. For users that do not wish to see any additional ads from brands, the new carousel ads will not impede their Instagram experience, allowing them to simply scroll past the ads in their feed.

“One way to look at it is carousel as bring the potential of multi-page print campaigns to mobile phones – with the added benefit of taking people to a website to learn more,” states the Instagram blog post announcing the new ad feature. “For instance, a fashion company could use the carousel to deconstruct the individual products in a ‘look.’ A car company might share an array of different features of a vehicle and provide a link to learn more about the new model.”
