Java Devs Bullish on Java 8
Typesafe has released a survey indicating Java developers are not only intent on upgrading to Java 8 quickly, but that there is real (not just virtual) interest in the functional programming features it brings in addition.
The survey of 2800 Java developers revealed that 68 percent have plans to upgrade to Java 8 within the next 24 months and 54 percent plan to do so within the next 12 months.
When it comes to what features Java devs are most looking forward to, 83 percent selected lambda expressions and virtual extension methods. The second most popular response was Java 8's enhancement of core libraries with lambda.
Shipment of Java 8 was delayed last year over security concerns, but it seems Oracle has done a relatively good job , with 59 percent of respondents agreeing Oracle is on the right track.
