Longer Titles and Descriptions on Google Search Results

While it may only be a test, it appears that Google has extended the length of titles and description used on its search results pages.

Google recently changed the width of the area containing its organic results from 500 to 600 pixels and support for longer titles and descriptions is likely a direct result of that change. Title tags have increased from 50-60 character to around 70 characters today, and descriptions are now showing an additional 15-20 character per line based on Website Magazine's recent analysis late last week.

The change could be significant if formally/officially adopted by Google, providing search optimization and search experience professionals a greater opportunity to include more content and indicate to searchers what the page is about (which could increase click-through rate).
