Looking to Drive Referral Traffic? Go With Pinterest, Not Twitter
As more and more companies leverage social media it is vital that companies have a realistic idea of what they could get from their efforts.
Shareaholic, a maker of content amplification software, has released the 3rd Quarter 2014 edition of their Social Media Traffic Report that outlines which social media network is the most adept at driving referral traffic.
Among the information detailed in the report is the fact that in September, Facebook delivered almost a quarter (22.36 percent) of the total visits to websites from around the world. The social media network that delivered the next most referrals was Pinterest at 5.52 percent. While Twitter comes in third place among the networks studied it accounts for just 0.88 percent of website referrals, a 14.34 percent decline from its numbers in June.
Another interesting finding from the study was that when you compare the percentage of referral traffic Facebook is responsible for in September 2014 to that of September 2013 there is a 115.63 percent increase. Pinterest also saw an increase in the amount of referral traffic it drove coming in 50.07 percent higher than it did September 2013. Interestingly, Twitter saw a 24.97 percent decrease in the amount of referral traffic it generated for websites in the same time period.
