Managing Local Business Listings

The local search ecosystem is growing and brands must adapt to the huge volumes of local queries.

A recent webinar by Rio SEO - a provider of software solutions for earned and owned digital media programs - emphasized the importance of managing local business listings across the three major search engines (Google, Yahoo and Bing), social engines and data aggregators (e.g. LocalEze, InfoUSA and Acxiom) to optimize a brand's local visibility.

Rio SEO is making local business listing management easier for its customers with its just-announced partnership with Acxiom.

Acxiom, an enterprise data, analytics and Software-as-a-Service (SAS) provider, will include the local business listings of Rio SEO customers in the Acxiom product and provide these and enhanced local business listings to other services that will display those listings in their search results. In other words, Rio SEO's partnership with Acxiom will provide customers with more control over the content that aggregators are distributing about their businesses on a locally relevant basis.

For the unfamiliar, search engines use information services like Acxiom to validate the vast amount of local business data and subject categories. Rio SEO reports that supplying consistent data to the information services and to local search engines provides relevant backlinks to validate customers' local business listings across local search engines and Internet Yellow Pages.

According to Bill Connard, vice president of local search solutions at Rio SEO, the more enhanced the local business data is, the more value it has for display to the searching consumers and prospects. To manage this condition, Acxiom acquires as much "enhanced data" or local business detail as possible.
