Microsoft and Yuccies Dominate Freelance Market [Infographic]
Despite cloud-based options like Google Drive, Microsoft Word is still the preferred word processing software by professionals. That doesn't mean, however, it hasn't been a tough market for Microsoft to stay atop in.
Microsoft has made strides to compete with emerging options with its Office 2016 update, which offers real-time collaboration, One Drive integration and cross-device/platform functionality. This is why it doesn't come as much of a surprise to Freelancer.com when its newest report (download PDF here) indicates an increase in Windows Desktop jobs as well as growth in Microsoft Office work. Word projects have grown by 29.3 percent (to 3,455 jobs), according to Freelancer.com, while other Microsoft Office jobs have increased by 8.3 percent (to 1,323 jobs).
More of Freelancer.com's report can be seen in the infographic below, which also introduces a new term, "Yuccie," (or Young Urban Creative) which is said to be replacing "Hipsters" as the demographic to watch in the creative field.
