Microsoft Cloud Service Gets First Major Update

Microsoft has officially unveiled the first major update to its cloud productivity service, Microsoft Office 365, that includes over 30 new enhancements for collaboration and communication within a company.

The new features, which are based largely on customer feedback, also include improvements to SkyDrive, the company's online document storage and file-sharing solution, such as simple app-centric sharing, powerful file management and easier uploads with HTML5.

Another key change is Lync support for Macs, so that Apple users can now use instant messaging, presence and videoconferencing with Office. The update also introduces SharePoint Business Connectivity Services, which allows users to connect information to line-of-business applications, as well as support for Windows Phone 7.5.

The service is also being rolled out in 22 additional markets including Argentina, Iceland, Indonesia and South Africa.
