Mobile Ads Come to YouTube (Finally!)
File this under the ‘took you guys long enough’ category. Nearly 20 percent of all of YouTube’s global traffic comes from mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, yet surprisingly, the Google-owned video streaming service never offered a way to monetize mobile video views. That’s all changed, as recently the company announced that it was finally going to start offering ads in mobile videos. The advertisements will be viewed as TrueView ads, meaning users can skip them after five seconds (this is the most popular ad type on YouTube’s website). Many have noted that it looks like YouTube fixed some of the problems with its mobile API that were hindering the company from offering ads on its mobile site in the first place.
