Monetizing the Social Data Stream; Twitter Acquires Gnip

Posted on 4.16.2014

Social data provider Gnip has been acquired by Twitter.

Twitter, which is currently releasing a suite of new advertising products in the near future, will likely begin packaging and selling data, a service currently in great demand by businesses and advertisers. Gnip has provided access to the Twitter data stream for many years, but Twitter advertisers will now have even deeper access to and insights on the 500 million tweets sent each day on its network.

"This acquisition signals clear recognition that investments in social data are healthier than ever," said Gnip's Chris Moody.

"Our customers can continue to build and innovate on one of the world’s largest and most trusted providers of social data and the foundation for innovation is now even stronger. We will continue to serve you with the best data products available and will be introducing new offerings with Twitter to better meet your needs and help you continue to deliver truly innovative solutions.
