More Love for .NYC

Each November consumers are reminded to "Shop Local" thanks to American Express's popular Small Business Saturday campaign. This year, shoppers are given a way to support local businesses - online. The recent launch of .nyc domain names is exclusive to only those with a New York City address, giving both merchants and shoppers a way to connect on the 'Net.

1&1 decided to look into what NYC consumers thought about local businesses and what they expect from those that will adopt a .nyc domain. 1&1 then took this data and created an infographic (below).

Some notable stats include:

- Eighty-two percent of NYC consumers experience frustration when trying to find a local business online with the top annoyances being incorrect suggestions (36 percent) and getting results from around the country (36 percent). 

- New Yorkers can correctly identify images of NYC an average of 86 percent of the time, but NYC business websites only 15 percent. 

- Staten Island residents prove to have the most faith in NYC businesses with 58.2 percent claiming NYC businesses are the “best businesses they have used.”
