More of a Sprint than a Stumble

Here’s a familiar storyline but with a bit of a twist: A rapidly growing social media site recently passed one of the Web’s most powerful entities in a key traffic statistic, according to a leading analytics service. No, it wasn’t another case of Facebook overtaking Google, although Facebook was a main character in the story. Instead, discovery engine StumbleUpon dethroned Facebook as the biggest driver of U.S. Web traffic among social media sites during the month of June, as reported by StatCounter. One of the hottest sites on the Internet — obviously — StumbleUpon continues to develop a revenue strategy, its most notable product being the Paid Discovery offering for advertisers.
