Social Hasn’t Realized Its Inbound Potential (Yet)
There will likely come a time in the near future when the number of inbound messages a brand receives on social media far outnumber the messages it sends. Millennials (ages 18-34) are, in many ways, driving this evolution. The latest Sprout Social Index provides confirmation. The report reveals that millennials are twice as likely as any other generation to turn to social, rather than phone or email, to communicate with a brand. In fact, Sprout Social found that 30 percent of this demographic engage with a brand they follow on a monthly basis.
Is Ad Blocking Really that Bad?
Digital advertising and Internet publishers are concerned about ad blocking and its numerous and rather serious revenue implications, but should they be? eMarketer just announced a revision on its estimates of ad blocking users in the U.S., reducing the number to 75.1 million from 86 million. At that level, more than one-quarter (27.5 percent) of U.S. Internet users will use ad blockers this year. While the estimate has been reduced, growth still appears significant at 16.2 percent.
A Strong Case for Content in Commerce
It may be tempting for retailers to use manufacturer-provided product descriptions and nothing else, post an item quickly with intent to fill in more information later or take any number of shortcuts when it comes to site content, but new data indicates it’s a mistake for internal teams to not prioritize the production of product content. Episerver recently found that 98 percent of shoppers have been dissuaded from completing a purchase because of incomplete or incorrect content, with a third (32 percent) of consumers never buying for that reason.

Turn Data Into Narratives
Companies have long struggled with adopting business intelligence (BI) solutions because the tools often require a significant level of analytical and communication skills, but that’s starting to change. Narrative Science announced the availability of its Narratives for Business Intelligence API, which will enable BI and analytics vendors to integrate natural language generation (NLG) capabilities into their own platforms – changing how users interpret and communicate data, broadening adoption of BI and driving product development in the process.
Blame Your Legacy System
Brands recognize the need for digital transformation and understand how inefficiencies in their digital strategy directly impact their user experience according to a PointSource survey of IT, marketing and operations decision-makers, but gaps in organizational and technical infrastructure make it difficult to address user needs. Eighty-four percent of respondents’ organizations have disparate legacy systems that impact the speed of development of new digital experiences and only 30 percent of departments come together to problem solve.
DNS Performance & Revenue Impact
Does a company’s DNS choices have an effect on their bottom line? Previous studies from DNS Made Easy found a direct link between lower DNS resolution times and increased conversions, but the company’s recent research found that not only did 92 percent of its clients notice lower resolution times shortly after migrating, but of those that saw improved performance, 74 percent also reported a noticeable increase in revenue.

Acquired: Wix announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire flok, a customer loyalty and engagement platform. The move supports Wix’s strategic plan to further increase its portfolio of business technology solutions to give small and medium businesses easy ways to engage and reward their customers.Acquired: Oracle announced plans to acquire Apiary, a startup that makes tools for developing application programming interfaces for cloud software. The acquisition would enable Oracle to better manage the complexities surrounding connectivity and API proliferation in general.
Funded: Mobile attribution and data analytics solution AppsFlyer has raised an additional $56 million in Series C financing, bringing its total to $84 million. The company reportedly grew revenues by 500 percent and increased staff from 40 employees to 240 in two years.

Launch of Instagram Ads in Stories

According to Instagram, one in five stories on Instagram receives a direct message from viewers and one-third of the most-viewed stories are from businesses.
