Net Briefs: No Recession Here

Posted on 10.24.2011

The Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers are reporting that online advertising revenues climbed to nearly $15 billion for the first half of 2011, a 23-percent jump from the first six months of 2010. That growth rate is the highest since the first half of 2007, when online ad spending grew 26 percent to reach just below $10 billion. Display ad revenues have increased 27 percent year-over-year to reach $5.5 billion, and search ad spending was also up about 27 percent. The biggest increase came from online video ad spending at 42 percent to $891 million, while the biggest drop was seen in email ad spending at 34 percent. The most active online advertisers in the first half were in the retail, financial, auto and technology sectors.
