Net Briefs: Searching for Yahoo!
September 2011 was a memorable month for Yahoo, but also one that the onceproud Web pioneer might like to forget. If the anticipated but unceremonious ouster of CEO Carol Bartz was not enough, the latest search data from comScore did not help matters. The company’s share of the global search market dropped from 16.3 percent to 15.5 percent for the month, it’s “lowest level ever” according to data provided by Macquarie Equities Research. Google’s search share benefited from Yahoo’s drop, climbing from 64.8 to 65.3, while Microsoft’s Bing remained unchanged at 14.7 percent. Another month like September for Yahoo, and its partner Bing will leapfrog it in the current hierarchy.
