Net Briefs: Social Enabled Advertising

Branching out from its appearance in natural search results, Google’s +1 button began appearing on display ads in mid-October, incorporating personal recommendations into the Adwords advertising ecosystem. By late September, the +1 button had already been installed on over 1 million websites and was generating more than 4 billion impressions daily. Whether the tactic will change the way people engage and interact with advertising is anyone’s guess, but the international scope and its availability for both desktop and mobile ads provides one of the first opportunities outside of that other social media advertising player (Facebook) for users to define and express their interests, as the +1 button applies to the same content across the Web.
