New httpupdate System from cPanel

Posted on 2.03.2016

cPanel has released a new and improved httpupdate system for cPanel & WHM.

The FastUpdate Cache system will ultimately reduce the amount of time that it takes partners (primarily hosting companies) to download cPanel & WHM software updates to their servers.

FastUpdate Cache essentially monitors httpupdate servers for the latest cPanel & WHM updates and then downloads them to servers (referred to as FastUpdate Cache mirrors) with the FastUpdate Cache RPM installed. These servers aaccept update requests from cPanel & WHM servers and provide them with the most recent software versions. This httpupdate system allows large partners and resellers to speed up new feature installations for their customers’ cPanel & WHM servers.

When partners install the FastUpdate Cache RPM, they can configure their cPanel & WHM servers to download updates from the mirror. FastUpdate Cache mirrors allow for easy participation in the httpupdate network and simplifies cPanel & WHM software deployment for partners whose servers are already on the network. It is important to note that the newly-released system only functions on freshly-installed CentOS 7 servers.

"With the old update and install servers, we were seeing installation times of up to 2+ hours," said Jared Hirst, Chief Executive Officer at Servers Australia. "With the new system, we have managed to reduce this down to just over 30 minutes, not only saving time, but also saving on the need to constantly fetch files from off our network. Customers, staff, and our data center technicians have all found a huge benefit in using the new fast update mirrors."
