New Service Automates the Migration Process

Often, transferring domains or moving websites and applications can be a detrimental hurdle for customers looking to switch Web hosting services, one that requires a significant amount of manual work. This process can be especially arduous for those who aren’t equipped with adequate resources, support, or automated tools.
The service, known as Otto, will help users transfer their sites, domains, and applications, and focuses on automating the process to make it as simple as possible for customers. It is managed by the dedicated support team at Media Temple.
“People are always asking Media Temple to help them move from their existing hosting provider,” says the company’s president and COO, Russell P. Reeder. “We built Otto to remove the headaches that come with moving websites, apps, and domains so that customers can focus on the more important – and fun – aspects of creating their websites.”
Migration of websites and domains to or from Media Temple will be carried out by one of two components, the aptly named SiteMover and DomainMover services. SiteMover audits any widget or plug-in on the site being moved and updates it to the most recent version whenever possible in order to provide optimal site performance and security. DomainMover will transfer .com, .net, .org, and other popular domain extensions.
Otto’s migration services cost $150 per site for websites and $25 per domain.
