Online Engagement and the Small Biz Success Correlation

SiteKreator released its Small Business Usage Study today which revealed that there is a direct correlation between small business success and the level of their online engagement.

While it does not take much mental processing power to figure out that you must work to achieve success, it is interesting to see (again) how much participation and engagement effects success online.

"We see it over and over again, small businesses who are either disengaged online or not online at all, do not grow at the same rates as those who have invested in an online presence," says Ivaylo Lenkov, founder and CEO of SiteKreator.

So the reason for the online failure of small businesses is that they're simply not trying hard enough? There is likely much more, but the findings from the study, which is based on SiteKreator’s analysis of aggregate usage trends of its 100,000 active accounts in 2010 in a variety of small business sectors, are actually quite interesting:

- 54% of small businesses update their websites less than once a month
- As few as five updates per month will increase website traffic by 300%
- Integrating Facebook in the website results in 400% more traffic than using paid search

 SiteKreator suggests keeping content fresh by posting industry news, responding to comments, creating image galleries, and running surveys to improve user engagement and rank higher in the search engines.
