Penguin 3.0: A Game of Skill
Penguin 3.0 may be wildly unpopular with search engine optimization professionals, but it does offer some entertainment value.
After the success of its first SEO-inspired game, Donkey Cutts, shopping site NetVoucherCodes.co.uk has launched its second, Chuckie Links, which is inspired by Google’s Penguin update, which is rolling out now. The game focuses on link removal, as players have to “chuck” away spammy links, while avoiding “black hats.”
To score points, the dodgy links then have to be taken to the webmaster for removal or players have the option to just disavow them.
However, as per Google’s advice that it is always better to remove the links than just disavowing them, more points are awarded for taking them to the webmaster.
“Removing bad links is a tedious and one of the most frustrating SEO tasks,” said Steve Barnes from NetVoucherCodes.co.uk. “Especially with the new Penguin update just around the corner, removing all the toxic backlinks is an essential job. If you don’t get them sorted, your site could face severe consequences.”
