Pinterest Cooks Up a Recipe Search Engine

Posted on 1.20.2014

Pinterest has released an update that is sure to make the food blogging world very happy.

The update makes it easier for Pinterest users to discover recipes through search. In fact, the update allows users to search for recipes with specific ingredients, as well as filter searches for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, paleo and “indulge me” results. The recipe results leverage the social network’s Rich Pin functionality by displaying pins that show extra information like cook time, ingredients and servings.

The social network notes that food bloggers can make their recipes more discoverable by leveraging Rich Pins. Although this update targets the food industry, it highlights the bigger picture of what Pinterest is trying to do – making its platform the go-to destination for content discovery on the Web.
