Pinterest Rolls Out Paid Test for Promoted Pins

Posted on 5.12.2014

Promoted Pins are getting closer to becoming a reality, as Pinterest is rolling out a paid test of this advertisement feature within the platform’s search and category feeds.

Promoted Pins made their initial debut last September, when Pinterest announced its plans to “experiment” with the advertising feature. During this testing phase, Pinterest worked with a select group of businesses to promote pins, free of charge, to see how the promoted content impacted the user experience. Today, however, the company is officially rolling out a paid test of the feature with a select group of brands, including ABC Family, Banana Republic,, Kraft, Target and Old Navy.

“These brands will help us test Promoted Pins to make sure they’re tasteful, transparent, relevant and improved based on your feedback— so that Pinterest continues to be a great experience for everyone,” the Pinterest blog states.

Pinterest notes that this second test will be small so the company can collect as much feedback as possible. That said, the social network hopes to open up the feature to more businesses this year. Those who are interested in learning more about the product can sign up for updates here.
