Preparing for a Very Merry Mobile Holiday 2016
Mobile shopping revenues are poised to explode this holiday shopping season and the savviest brands are preparing to capitalize on the opportunity.
Groupon and Jet (recently acquired by Walmart), for example, reportedly signed on to partner with mobile shopping app Ibotta (the 16th most frequently used mobile app in the U.S. according to Consumer Research Partners), the cashback platform that rewards shoppers when they make purchases in retailers' brick-and-mortar stores.
The partnership will enable the two companies to post products on Ibotta's platform, increasing their visibility among the apps's roughly 12 million monthly active users (MAUs) and potentially improving interaction (thanks to discounts for visiting offline).
Neither of the companies, however, fit the model of Ibotta's traditional retailer (which already include the likes of Target and GBC) as both are primarily online/Web destinations.
The value of an Ibotta partnership for these companies will likely come in the form of a mobile retail app referral channel, the question is how much and will it be worth it over the long term.
