Pulling Customers' Facebook Data for Retailers

Social media has proven to be a rich opportunity for marketers to connect with their customer base but companies are always looking for a better return on their investment.

ShopSocially, a social commerce platform, has released a new app called Social Connect, which enables retailers to gather important data about customers from social network giant Facebook. When a customer connects with a brand through the “Connect With Us” button on the participating company's website, its marketers are then able to access personal data about the customer via his or her Facebook profile.

“In today’s social world, simple email acquisition is becoming obsolete. Brands should target social profile acquisition to step up from generic emails to more personalized social messages,” commented Jai Rawat, CEO of ShopSocially.

With this new app, retailers will be able to see what motivates a specific consumer and then send them deals based on those motivations. Another feature of this app is that when a customer “connects” with a company, their friends will be able to see that the connection has been made. The hope is that this will increase the popularity of a business through digital word-of-mouth recommendations.
