QUICK HIT: .COM Domains Top 130 Million

Domain name speculators that focus on the new extensions (from .CLUB to .WANG) won't be pleased to hear about the continued success of the .COM landscape.

Verisign, which operates the .COM registry, recently reported the number of .Com domain names in the domain name base exceeds 130 Million for the first time.

The actual number of domains in the .COM Domain Name Base continues to increase. At the end of June 2017, the total number of .COMs was 129 million and, similarly, was 128 million (for the first time) back in September 2016.

According to Verisign, the domain name base is the active zone plus the number of domain names that are registered but not configured for use in the respective Top-Level Domain zone file plus the number of domain names that are in a client or server hold status.
