QUICK HIT: GoDaddy Drops Uniregistry
Popular domain registrar and Web hosting solution GoDaddy is reportedly stopping the sale of top-level domain names from Uniregistry following an announcement from the company that a wholesale price hike would begin in Aug. 2017.
There are reports that many of the domains (including .CLICK and others) are currently unable to be transferred to GoDaddy, indicating that the registrar is not wasting any time pressuring Uniregistry to rethink its pricing.
The dramatic price hike will see some domain name prices increase upward of 500 to 1,000 percent in some cases. Here are just some of the domain name extensions that will be impacted (meaning they can't be registered at Godaddy) and receive price increases: .AUDIO (from $9.33 to$100.00), . DIET (from $13.33 to $100.00), . FLOWERS $17.67 to $100.00, .GUITARS (from $20.00 to $100.00), . HIPHOP (from $13.33 to $100.00), . HOSTING (from $20.00 to $300.00), .JUEGOS (from $9.33 to $300.00), and . PROPERTY (from $20.00 to $100.00).
It is possible that other registrars could follow GoDaddy’s lead and that could cause problems not only for Uniregistry but anyone that has purchased a Uniregistry domain name extension.
