QUICK HIT: The Time for SSL is Now

There's really no question that having an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate for a website is essential in today's 'Net landscape.

Not only does it (reportedly) provide benefits to search engine optimization initiatives, but it offers a better (i.e. more secure) experience for users and those responsible for the success of their digital enterprises have received the message loud and clear.

Certificate authority (CA) Let’s Encrypt, for example, has now reportedly issued over 50 million active certificates. That volume makes Let's Encrypt one of the leading providers of SSL, and it's putting a lot of pressure on traditional providres like Comodo, EnTrust, Digicert and others.

There are a two main reasons why website owners and operators may have likely delayed getting started on SSL in the past. First, it can be somewhat complex to install/implement, and secondly, it can be expensive. Fortunately, it has become both easier and cheaper for millions of websites over the past few years thanks to Let's Encrypt and that's evident in the 50 million active certification milestone.

With upward of 70 to 80 percent of search result listings now using HTTPS (source: RankRanger & Mozcast) now is the time to implement an SSL if you have not already done so.
