Quick Hit: Walmart Takes On Amazon
Walmart is ready to fight Amazon for the e-commerce crown, as the company is rolling out a free 30-day trial of its unlimited two-day shipping ShippingPass program.
After the free trial, ShippingPass is $49 a year, which is about half the price of Amazon Prime. What’s more, ShippingPass requires no minimum order and includes free online and in-store returns. Amazon Prime, however, comes with other benefits, including unlimited photo storage and the ability to stream videos and music.
“ShippingPass is about half the price of similar programs out there at just $49 a year, and customers who are using it, love it,” said Fernando Madeira, Walmart.com US president and CEO. “They shop on Walmart.com more often to take advantage of our low prices, fast shipping and added benefits of no minimum order requirements and free online or in-store returns. Once you start using it, it’s hard not to notice the everyday low prices on the stuff you need and want.”
