Rackspace Recovering from DDOS Attack

Posted on 12.28.2014

Cloud hosting and infrastructure provider Rackspace indicated it has at least partially recovered froma distributed denial of service attack that blocked a "portion of legitimate traffic" to its DNS infrastructure.

Rackspace acknowledged "intermittent periods of latency, packet loss, or connectivity failures when attempting to reach rackspace.com or subdomains with rackspace" on its Google+ page, later confirming a UDP DDos attack targeting the DNS servers in its Northern Virginia, Chicago and London data centers.

The effect on users of the Rackspace service is still somewhat unknown, so the company is encouraging anyone that experienced adverse impact to contact their support team in order to provide trace route information for the investigation and analysis of the root cause.
