Ecommerce services provider Ecwid is providing a better shopping experience to mobile customers, as the platform now supports responsive design.

The responsive technology automatically adapts an online store's design to work on any device a customer uses, including smartphones, tablets and desktops. Ecwid's more than 340,000 merchants have been upgraded with the new responsive functionality at no additional cost.

"Most shopping carts are designed for viewing on desktops or laptops and are not adept at arranging content for optimal viewing on various mobile device screens," says Eugene Kaznacheev, Ecwid Product Manager. "Our latest release changes this paradigm. Now Ecwid automatically detects when a screen is narrow and adjusts accordingly, ensuring that the online store displays optimally. By being flexible, adaptive, fluid and fast, Ecwid helps provide the best experience based on the customer's device, which ultimately helps drive more sales."

It is important to note that with the responsive design functionality, all desktop features of the Ecwid shopping cart remain intact. That said, the features are adjusted to give the best usability for a device's particular screen size, which helps to generate better customer engagement and conversion rates.

"Today, nearly two-thirds of all online shopping sessions begin on smartphones, according to Google. This means serious merchants must ensure that their stores are optimized to dynamically support multiple screen-sizes," says Jim O'Hara, president of Ecwid, Inc. "With responsive design, all retailers with Ecwid-powered stores now are prepared for this major evolution in ecommerce, and their customers are able to have a great shopping experience regardless of the device and its screen size, and without having to switch between multiple sites."
