RIP Mobile Flash - WM Net Briefs

Posted on 11.21.2011

After a hard-fought battle for the future of mobile browser development, Adobe finally killed off mobile Flash, making HTML5 the definitive winner. Of course, this shouldn’t really surprise anyone as Microsoft, Google, Facebook and Apple have all been solidly behind HTML5 for some time. Most notably Apple, considering the company refused to support Flash for the iOS version of its Safari browser. Going forward, mobile Flash development will be concentrated on the AIR platform, a Flash-based tool for developing native apps. The next mobile update, Flash Player 11.1, will be the last, but never fear Adobe fans — the company will “increase investment in HTML5 and innovate with Flash” for the PC, so you can still get your Flash fix.
