Salesforce Unveils New Platform for Mobile App Development

Posted on 10.21.2014

According to a Nielsen report, consumers are spending 89 percent of their time on mobile devices in apps compared to just 11 percent on the mobile web.

With consumers spending so much time interacting with apps, it comes as no surprise that new platforms continue to be unveiled to help app developers bring their vision to life.

Salesforce, best known for its customer relationship management system, has announced the release of a new development platform for mobile apps called Salesforce1 Lightning.

The new development platform allows app developers to bring their ideas to fruition quickly and easily with a drag and drop user interface. However, perhaps the most important feature of Salesforce1 Lightning is that apps created using the platform will automatically be optimized for any device on any platform. The reason this is so important is because between laptops, smartphones and wearables alone, the differences in screen sizes is astounding and consumers are expecting an experience tailor-made for their devices.

“It shouldn’t be harder to build an app than it is to run a business,” said Mike Rosenbaum, general manager and executive vice president of the Salesforce1 Platform from Salesforce. “With Salesforce1 Lightning, we’ve made technology barriers disappear so anyone can create the apps they need. I can’t wait to see what happens when Lightning gets into the hands of developers and business users.”
