Say Hello to the Revamped Google Trends
Google Trends has been revamped to provide users with real-time data.
The update will provide a more comprehensive view of the top topics searched for on Google’s search engine. Moreover, Google notes that users are not only able to track stories, but also see where in the world interest is peaking for those stories. In fact, users can explore data be selecting any time range within the last week via the “date picker.”
Google Trend’s homepage displays a ranked, real-time list of trending stories that are gaining traction amongst search users. That said, Google is also taking trends from YouTube and Google News into consideration to better understand what topics and stories are trending across the Web. It is also important to note that Google has increased the coverage of Google Trends to allow for in-depth research on more niche topics. Plus, Google is publishing data sets on specific topics to its Github page, which can be useful for data journalists.
“Every journey we take on the web is unique. Yet looked at together, the questions and topics we search for can tell us a great deal about who we are and what we care about,” Google stated in its announcement. “That’s why today we're announcing the biggest expansion of Google Trends since 2012. You can now find real-time data on everything from the FIFA scandal to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign kick-off, and get a sense of what stories people are searching for.”
