SEM Booms, Keyword Prices Increase 2%

SEMPO reported yesterday in "The State of Search Engine Marketing 2006" that the online advertisng and marketing business is booming with North American advertisers spending $9.4 billion on SEM in 2006 (with the majority - $8 billion - going to paid search). On a more interesting note for those fueling this boom however, after rising sharply in the third quarter, the average keyword price paid by online advertisers rose 2% percent in the fourth quarter of 2006 to $1.51 according to the Keyword Price Index from Fathom Online.
