Serious Website Errors Affect 92% of Fortune 500

Posted on 2.24.2013

Broken links aren’t only the scourge of developing optimal user experiences, they also carry the potential to wreak absolute havoc to your search rankings.

To show off their newly-released website monitoring service CloudTrawl, Deep Cognition Ltd. scanned Fortune 500 websites and found that 92% of those sites checked had broken links. What’s more frightening is that 43% had more than 100 link errors and 13 percent of all pages contained at least one.

The statistics were generated by CloudTrawl simultaneously checking the links in 100 random Fortune 500 websites - they prove that 404’s and other types of broken links are not only recognised as very problematic, they’re extremely widespread even among the world's most influential companies.

These included links to internal and external news, quarterly statements and social media presences. Perhaps most worrying were the broken links to legal notices and terms & conditions documents.
