Set E-Commerce on Fire with SMS & Magento

Posted on 9.21.2014

With the prevalence of smartphones today, retailers should seriously consider adding SMS into the digital experience they provide to users. And if your retail enterprise uses the Magento e-commerce platform, there are quite a few opportunities available.

One of the newer entrants into the SMS space for Internet retailers running Magento is FireText (the platform also has an integration with WooCommerce). The free extension enables merchants to send text messages at up to five order stages, offers personalized experiences for customers using purchase data (12 available data fields), and supports URL links. What's more, Firetext enables retailers to receive replies directly to their email inbox. The UK-based company currently counts companies including Pizza Hut and Puegot (and many others) as customers.

FireText is only the most recent provider of an extension that enables Magento-based retailers to set their e-commerce presence on fire with SMS. Here are some others definitely worthy of online merchants' attention.

: SMS Manager : An extension that enables store admins to send customers' text notifications when orders are shipped or to update them with tracking information. Admins can even select whether they want to notify the phone number associated with the billing or shipping address (or both if different).

: SMS PRO : Internet retailers can use the Nexmo SMS gateway to send SMS to customers with this extension. Merchants can add events which will trigger an SMS to customers, distribute to multiple recipients and have access to customizable templates.

: Mage SMS : One of the more robust extensions for sending SMS, Mage SMS offers a long list of controls and customizations ideal for mid to larger retailers. The free module is avalable in multiple languages and is very popular with Magento users currently.

: Clockwork SMS: An add-on that enables Magento merchants to send text messages to internal staff and customers when an order status changes. (order placed, order shipped, delay shipping, etc). The add-on is free but per text charges do apply for retailers.
