Shazam Introduces New Image Recognition Technology

With more and more apps being introduced to mobile marketplaces every day, companies are constantly on the hunt for new ways to keep current users interested and entice prospective users.

Entertainment and music matching app Shazam has announced the introduction of visual recognition to their app, a new functionality meant to help turn static images into dynamic content.

Through the new functionality users of Shazam are able to experience custom mobile experiences including interactive content, special offers and the ability to share and purchase products. Users are able to Shazam images whenever they see the company’s camera logo or QR code by the image. To help rollout the new feature Shazam has partnered with a diverse group of companies including The Walt Disney Company, Target, Esquire, Evian and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

“The introduction of visual recognition is another step on our journey to extend the ways people can use Shazam to engage with the world around them,” said Rich Riley, chief executive officer, Shazam. “For brands, we’re providing a near-frictionless way to engage customers on their mobile devices, with a single tap of a button.”
