Shoppable Posts at Instagram Go International

Two of the leading e-commerce platforms have announced integrations with Instagram and it could breathe some much needed new life into social commerce.

Shopify has expanded its "shopping on Instagram" feature for online sellers in eight additional markets (UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Brazil). Shopify already supports several other "social" channels currently including Facebook, Pinterest and eBay.

Shopify’s sales channel integration with Instagram allows merchants to sell directly to consumers through product tagging. Sellers using the ecommerce platform will need to have the Facebook channel installed in their store (with an approved Facebook Shop) and have an Instagram Business account (which can be set up after connecting their Facebook Page). There is no cost to Shopify merchants for using the feature. 

BigCommerce has also expanded its collaboration with Instagram to make shopping on Instagram available to merchants beyond the United States and now includes Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

In October 2017, BigCommerce announced its participation in enabling shopping on Instagram for its US merchants as part of a limited beta. Today’s announcement, however, marks the first time businesses outside of the US will gain access to the shopping on Instagram capability.

In just five months, BigCommerce claims the merchants using the fature have seen a 50 percent increase in Instagram referral traffic to their site, demonstrating the social channel’s potential in creating a more engaging shopping experience.
