Shopping Feed Gets Experience Makeover

Google has recently announced a variety of updates to its Google Shopping Feed Specification and Google Product Taxonomy.

With a stated goal of creating a “richer experience for customers” and “to simplify the process of providing information in your feed,” Google has set a variety of new guidelines for each service. In Google Shopping Feed Specification, the tech powerhouse has made numerous updates including the availability of units and quantity attributes in the U.S., split up Apparel and Variants attributes as well as released stat numeric Google Product Category IDs that can be used as values for the Google Product Category attribute. Also, shipping requirements to Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Japan have all been expanded to display total price.

Furthermore, in its Google Shopping Product Taxonomy, Google has simplified numerous paths by rolling categories into its parent nodes as well as added more categories to the verticals “Food, Beverage & Tobacco” and “Mature” among other updates.

Google states that beginning on Sept. 15, 2015 it will start enforcing the feed specification update with shipping enforcement to being Feb. 1, 2016.
