Snapchat Gets Chatty
Popular ephemeral messaging application Snapchat is adding some text to its predominately visual platform, as the company has unveiled a new “Chat” feature.
With Chat, users have the ability to have conversations with friends in a private chat screen through traditional text, snaps and previously saved images and videos from the camera roll. It is important to note, however, that while the feature enables users to save messages within the Chat, all messages are cleared as soon as the chat screen is closed. Moreover, the new feature also enables users to make live video calls if both parties are in the chat screen at the same time.
In order to leverage the feature, users must swipe right on a friend’s name in the Snapchat inbox. It will be interesting to see how Snapchat’s user base adapts to Chat and if it is something that brands will end up using to communicate with their audiences. For those interesting in trying the new feature out, Chat should be available in the App Store and Google Play Store later today.
