Social Persona & Digital Identify at Bing
In the digital media and tech industry, reputation is everything. And on the Web, things move fast. If you don't move at the same speed, you'll be left behind.
Managing your social persona, your "digital identity" if you will, isn't easy - and can get away from you quickly if you aren't careful. From LinkedIn and Facebook, to Twitter and Instagram, managing how your personal brand appears is a real challenge - but it's getting easier.
Bing, for example, recently announced that it is teaming up with Klout to create Bing Personal Snapshots - an integration that will allow people to verify their profile information and influence how they appear within the Snapshot column on Bing. The information is culled from a person's connected profiles at the Klout service. When a snapshot is officially claimed, a personal profile will include a "verified" badge.
While a terrific addition to the Bing SERPs, I believe there's some room for improvement. For example, I'm wildly popular on Facebook but I would rather feature the links and information I share on LinkedIn. Bing Personal Snapshots doesn't offer up that control today - here's to hoping it does in the near future.
