Taking Control of Comment SPAM

Posted on 6.16.2016

Comment SPAM is more than just annoying to moderators, it leaves a bad impression on those visiting your website property.

Commenting and audience development platform Disqus, however, is doing something about the problem, announcing user blocking is coming to its system.

Users of Disqus will now be able to block profiles of commenters that they believe are negatively impacting the online discussion experience. When a Disqus user blocks someone, they will no longer receive notifications from that blocked user via email, in their Disqus inbox, in their home feed or on discussion threads.

“We see a lot of comments — millions of people from around the world use Disqus to post over 50 million comments every month. Sometimes the discussions are provoking and fun, but sometimes, well, they’re not. We’ve been hearing from Disqus users that they want better blocking controls and I’m happy that the feature is finally here. We hope that this makes it easier for people to dive into good discussions, plus we also know that it’ll really help out publishers by reducing how much moderating they have to do,” said Daniel Ha, CEO and co-founder.
