Thanksgiving Day iPad Traffic Jumps by 95%
Although the busiest shopping weekend is just hitting its stride, early data suggests that website traffic on Thanksgiving Day reached new highs.
In fact, data from Compuware’s Application Performance Management business unit reveals that Thanksgiving Day saw a 95 percent increase in iPad traffic compared to the day before, which is a huge leap considering 2012's Thanksgiving Day only saw an increase of 23 percent in iPad traffic. In addition, there was a 69 percent jump in iPhone traffic on Thursday compared to Wednesday this year.
Other data suggests that Internet retailers may not have been prepared for the increase of traffic that the holidays brought. This is because page load times averaged more than 8 seconds on Thanksgiving Day, which is a decrease in performance from 2012’s average load time of 6 seconds. And to further prove that site speed makes a difference, Compuware reports that when the average page load time exceeded 6 seconds, page abandonment rates increased from 12 percent to more than 20 percent.
