There is no denying the fact that technology has changed the face of business in the past 10 years. Tasks that once took whole departments of people have been relegating to software-as-a-service (SaaS), streamlining processes, making companies more efficient while saving money.

Here are a few technologies that have changed the face of business and how we do things:

  • Mobile Applications: Apps need very little explanation. They have exploded from just a few hundred in 2008, to over 6 million in 2017. It is difficult to find a business today that does not have a mobile application and most business applications can be accessed on an app with some functionality.

  • Cloud Computing: The days of downloading and storing items on an external hard drive are quickly disappearing for small businesses. With the cloud, businesses no longer have to worry about being able to keep up with the customer demand or if their server or Internet will crash during a large sale. The fear of crashes and losing data can be thrown out the window with the right provider. A recent survey found that 85 percent of enterprises have a multi-cloud strategy and that enterprises run 32 percent of workloads in public cloud and 43 percent in private cloud. Expect these numbers to grow exponentially in the coming years.
  • Customer Segmentation and Data: Companies are now able to glean data about their customers spending habits, family life, and work habits through customer segmentation. From targeted ads using search history on your computer, to your purchases at your local grocery store, data is available for every segment of our population. Many companies are  segmenting their customers, because the technology is readily available and it allows them to take their business even further than they ever thought possible
  • Outsourcing: Companies are now able to simplify their current practices by utilizing services and programs that other companies have created and focus on what they do best. This is typically something that is charged for but it is cheaper than other options. Outsourcing is a smart move for many companies and it has become extremely popular in the business world.

Whether you are just starting out or you are simply looking for a way that you can further your business with technology without spending too much money, here are a few companies that can help you achieve your goals. These are only a few examples of companies that provide technology that can be utilized by small businesses in fact; they are all services that I use within my own business.
