The Future Looks Bright for Hadoop MapReduce

Posted on 8.03.2012

The big data boom has changed a lot on the Web. Most notably, it has spurred the creation and development of many new technologies, and none of them has made a bigger impact than the Apache Hadoop open source software framework.

As the Web continues to grow and we develop more ways for users to access it, big data will only get bigger. Because of this, Hadoop is one of the most important projects out there. But you don’t have to take my word for it, just look at a new report from to get a look at the exponential growth of Hadoop MapReduce.

According to the “Hadoop-MapReduce Market Forecast 2013-2018,” Hadoop MapReduce is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 58 percent by 2018, which accounts for approximately $2.2 billion.

It seems clear that Hadoop is well-positioned to become the industry standard technology for managing big data and business intelligence solutions, and it presents opportunities for business environments that rely heavily on big data. As they begin to see a growing need to accommodate increasing amounts of data that they have to process, store, and analyze, they also see more cost-prohibitive pricing models being imposed by established IT vendors.

These issues negatively impact the IT budgets of many companies, but thanks to the open source nature of Hadoop, it becomes more of a viable and cost-effective solution every day.
