The .GREEN In Focus
Domain registry Affilias is relaunching its official website for the .GREEN top level domain (TLD) extension after a rather unimpressive first year for the new extension.
With the "green" marketplace estimated at more than $5 trillion globally, many domain name industry analysts and investors expected far more interest and activity. Since its general availability in March of 2015, however, only 2300 .GREEN extensions have been registered. The .GREEN TLD is unrestricted and available at many registrars worldwide (get.green/find-registrar) - although depending on the registrar, it costs between $50 and $100 at most registrars for the privilege.
Despite a relatively slow start however, there are brands using the new extension including abs.green (a platform for architects, engineers, scientists and the building industry), nuterra.green (waste management), and relan.green (a U.S. manufacturer of repurposed billboard and banner products).
“We are grateful for the support of Green community so far and look forward to serving more members going forward,” said Roland LaPlante, chief marketing officer of Afilias. “Internet users are increasingly searching online for green solutions, be it products, services, vacations, housing, etc. With trillions of dollars being invested in “green projects” and millions of people changing their habits, this is the TLD that will make it easier to find green solutions online.”
