The Resurgence of In-Text Advertising

Posted on 6.03.2014

A new text-based advertising product (a monetization tools for publishers) has been released by advertising network Advertise.com.

It's InText tool identifies and highlights commercial keywords that advertisers bid on, triggering relevant text ads when a user scroller over a highlighted keyword. These sort of monetization opportunities are really nothing new to the performance advertising industry, but they have pretty much fallen out of virtual fashion as publishers look to speed up their websites and improve the user experience by making advertising less intrusive. Advertise.com, however, believes that the users that see the ads it serves in the text-based advertising product will be found useful because it is in the context of their browsing session (targeting users' incoming search behavior and on-site page interests) and making it less intrusive overall.

"By implementing a keyword-targeted ad unit for related content sites, we hope to create a pleasant viewing experience for the user that is also flexible to the various needs of our publishers," explains Daniel Yomtobian, CEO and founder of Advertise.com. "So we made InText very easy to implement with a simple JavaScript code -- requiring no change to a website's structure or general design."
