The Role of Smartphones in Offline Commerce

Receiving real-time promotions is one of the benefits of a retail world where smartphones are the norm. 

A Nov. 2015 research study from Accenture reveals that nearly half of adult smartphone users worldwide, those who shopped both digitally and in-store in the three months, apparently "can't wait" to receive real-time promotions on their devices.

While the enthusiasm over being served real-time promotions might be somewhat inflated, Accenture's study does at least reveal that consumers are warming up to the practice.

Highlights from the study include:

+ 42 percent of respondents said they want the ability to credit coupons and discounts automatically.

+ 37 percent said they want to be able to order out-of-stock goods via their smartphone.

+ 37 percent said they want to be able to use a shopping list, in-store item locators or navigator.
