The Tech Industry Receives its Own Domain

Posted on 4.30.2015

While (dot)com remains the most popular domain, the influx of new domains continues to expand the digital ecosystem and open new opportunities for companies looking to secure a relevant domain name.

Radix, a new gTLD registry, has recently announced the launch of (dot)tech, a new domain for the tech industry.

The new gTLD will enable tech companies to reserve a domain name that best resembles themselves instead of having to select one that barely echos their company or product. Radix states that they are going to hand select the first receivers of a .tech domain name and provide them with premium and reserved names. There are three phases to the rollout of .tech.

The first, the Sunrise phase, is exclusively for trademark holders and lasts from May 25 to July 24. The second phase, for those a part of the Early Access Program, lasts from July 29 to Aug. 4 and gives companies priority access to the .tech registrations at an additional fee. Finally, the new gTLD will be available to everyone on a first-come first-serve basis on Aug. 5.

"We are delighted to add .tech to our TLD portfolio. This new extension will represent the ever-growing community of users who truly understand the power of the Internet and appreciate the value of a powerful identity online. As a techie at heart, this is an extension that I can personally relate and connect with the most," says Bhavin Turakhia, CEO of Radix.
