The Wait is Over! Instagram Supports Multiple Accounts

Posted on 2.16.2016

It only took five-plus years, but Instagram now supports users who manage more than one account on the photo-driven network.

Rather than having to sign out from a personal account to log into a business one, for example, users can now switch from account to account without changing credentials. While it seems like a simple change, it's removing an annoyance for social media managers, which might encourage greater time spent on the platform for business purposes.

With more than half of Instagram users following brands, it's time for most enterprises to leverage the network to engage their audiences of all ages. While Instagram has long been touted as a network for millennials (55 percent of online adults ages 18 to 29 use Instagram), more and more people are flocking to the network for fear of missing out. While those slower adopters move to Instagram, Web professionals shouldn't be surprised to hear that the younger generations are abandoning ship for emerging networks like Snapchat where Cosmopolitan magazine, for instance, is getting 3 million readers a day. Snapchat users are clearly engaged, with 65 percent of daily users contributing content.

For now, however, social media managers can rejoice in multiple account support on Instagram. To use, click the gears icon in the upper right-hand corner in the app and then click on "Add Account."

Once signed in, the user needs to press down on the profile pic in the lower right-hand corner to see the list of associated accounts and switch back and forth (see image).
